Hurricane Isaias Claim Denied in Mary Esther?

If your insurance company denied your Hurricane Isaias claim in Mary Esther, the denial letter is where the claim gets decided, not where it ends. The adjuster who wrote it works for the carrier. A public adjuster is the licensed professional who works for you.

Why was my Hurricane Isaias claim denied in Mary Esther?

Most Hurricane Isaias denials in Mary Esther come down to a few reasons: the carrier calls the damage flood or storm surge instead of wind, calls it wear and tear or pre-existing, says notice came late, or says the damage falls under the hurricane deductible. The letter names the reason. Whether that reason fits your policy and the actual damage is a separate question, and it is the one that decides the claim.

Wind, rain and rising water in Mary Esther

Along the sound and bay shoreline, Mary Esther properties took wind and wind-driven rain, and some saw water rise. Carriers in these areas often split a loss: they pay part as wind and deny the rest as flood or as long-term deterioration. Interior water that entered through a wind-damaged roof or opening is a different loss from rising water, and the denial letter rarely draws that line accurately.

Can I dispute a denied hurricane claim in Florida?

Yes. A denial of a Hurricane Isaias claim in Okaloosa County is the carrier’s position, not a final ruling. Florida gives policyholders several routes: asking the carrier to reconsider on new documentation, the state’s mediation program for residential claims (Fla. Stat. 627.7015), and, before any lawsuit, a written presuit notice (Fla. Stat. 627.70152). Each has conditions and timing, and the right one depends on why the claim was denied.

How long do I have to reopen a denied Isaias claim?

Under Fla. Stat. 627.70132, notice of a new or reopened property claim must be given within one year of the date of loss, and a supplemental claim within 18 months. For a Hurricane Isaias loss in Mary Esther on October 9, 2026, one year runs to October 9, 2027. A denied claim is not automatically closed for good, but the clock keeps running while you decide.

What does a public adjuster do with a denial letter?

A licensed public adjuster reads the Isaias denial letter against your actual policy, then against the damage at your Mary Esther property. The question is whether the carrier’s stated reason is supported: the right peril, the right exclusion, the right facts. If it is not, the adjuster documents the loss independently and puts the claim back in front of the carrier with the evidence it did not consider.

Frequently asked questions

My Isaias claim was denied as wear and tear. Can that be challenged?

Often. Wear and tear describes gradual deterioration; a roof or structure that was sound before October 9 and damaged after it is a storm loss. The question is evidence of the condition before and after, which is what an independent inspection documents.

Should I accept the denial and file with flood insurance instead?

Not before the wind damage is separated out. If you carry flood insurance, a surge loss belongs there, but wind damage belongs on the homeowners policy, and accepting a full flood characterization can give up the wind portion.

Is it too late if my Isaias claim was denied weeks ago?

Usually not. Under Fla. Stat. 627.70132 a reopened claim must be noticed within one year of the date of loss. For an October 9, 2026 loss that runs to October 9, 2027.

What does a public adjuster cost for a Hurricane Isaias claim?

Florida caps public adjuster fees under Fla. Stat. 626.854. For claims arising from an event under a declared state of emergency, the cap is 10% of the claim payment for claims made during the year after the declaration; Isaias is under Executive Order 26-202. The review is free and Public Loss Adjusters works on a no recovery, no fee basis.

Do you work Hurricane Isaias claims in Mary Esther?

Yes. Public Loss Adjusters is based in Montverde, in Central Florida. Denied and underpaid claims turn on documents - the letter, the carrier's estimate and the policy - and we review and work those files anywhere in Florida. We are a Florida-licensed public adjusting firm, License #A161638.

Is storm surge covered by homeowners insurance?

Generally no - a standard homeowners policy covers wind and excludes flood, and storm surge is treated as flood. Flood insurance is a separate policy. Damage caused by wind before or apart from the water is still a wind loss, so a claim with both needs the two separated.
