File Homeowners Insurance Theft Claims and Restore Peace of Mind
Discovering a theft or burglary at your home is a stressful situation. We understand how you feel, and are here to help.
While each claim may be different, the homeowners insurance theft claims process is designed to help settle your claim quickly and get your life back to normal.
What to Do When a Theft Has Occurred
First, make sure your home is safe to enter. If you suspect someone is inside, call 9-1-1 immediately. Otherwise:
- If you haven’t already done so, call the police and file a police report
- Take photos or videos of structural or personal property damages
- Make any emergency repairs that will help protect your home from further damage, such as securing broken windows or damaged doors. Be sure to save all receipts
- If a contractor is needed, you’re free to find your own contractor to perform the emergency repairs
- If you do not own your home, contact your landlord
- If you have damaged property in your home, don’t dispose of it. The adjuster may need to inspect the damages to resolve your claim
Investigating Your Homeowners Insurance Theft Claims
After homeowners insurance theft claims are filed, Public Loss Adjusters will review your policy with you and help guide you through the claims process. Your claim may be handled over the phone or an adjuster may visit your home to assess your damages.
You’ll likely be asked for the following information:
- Personal contact information- name, phone number, address
- Date and details of the theft
- List of stolen or damaged items
- Police report number
Providing a list of the stolen or damaged items can expedite the claims process. The inventory should include:
- Where and when the item was purchased
- The cost of the item
- The brand and model of the item
- A copy of the original purchase receipt, if available
- Photos or videos of the stolen or damaged items, if possible
Settling and Closing Your Homeowners Insurance Theft Claims
Any payment you receive is based on the coverage you purchased and the severity of the damage, minus your applicable policy deductible.
